The Ponsonby Heroes
are Auckland's gay rugby team.
The Heroes are part of the
Ponsonby Rugby
club in Auckland and
a member of
the
IGRAB, an association of
gay rugby clubs from around the
world.
The
team plays each Saturday in the
cocial division in Auckland Rugby's club competition.
During the summer, the team also
plays touch rugby on Friday nights
in Ponsonby Rugby's touch
competition at Western Springs.
History
The team was formed in 1997 to
provide an team for gay and bisexual
men to play rugby. It has competed in the Auckland club
competition since its
inception. It also played
a couple of matches against the
Krazy Knights, Wellington gay's
rugby team, wininng the first
encounter between the two teams in
1997. Recently, the team
played touch rugby as part of Team
Auckland at the 2002 Gay Games in
Sydney. Many of the team will
be playing at the Bingham Cup - the gay rugby world cup
- in London in May 2004.

players welcome
The team welcomes gay and
gay-friendly players of all levels of
experience.
